Claude C. Skaates (69) of Live Oak, Florida (formerly Tampa, Fla.) received his angel wings on the afternoon of August 24, 2016. Liver cancer took his body but his spirit resides with the Lord. He is survived by his loving Wife of 45 years Deborah Ann Skaates, his Son Aaron Claude Skaates (Wife Dawn Skaates) his daughter Gail Karen Skaates, his grandchildren Gail, Jamil, Jadon, Aaron Jr., Jenny and great grandchildren Connor & Lily along with many other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his Father (George Ernest Skaates), Mother (Lydia Garcia Skaates), Brothers (Stephen, Richard and Robert) and sister (Gail). He was a graduate of Hillsborough High School and Florida Southern College. He was a proud Mason of the Grand Lodge of Florida and was a member of the Agriculture Advisory Council for Food Production for many years. His family owned a prominent business in the Tampa Bay Area for more than 50 years (Garcia Canning Company, Inc.) and currently owns a farm in North Florida (Skaates Farm, Inc.). He was a generous, caring, loving, family man and great friend.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 18305 56th Street in Live Oak on Sept. 3 from 5-7 p.m.
