George F. Blake was born on January 17, 1935 in Cleburne County, Alabama. God called his faithful servant home on February 23, 2017. He was a 1953 graduate of Cleburne County High School in Heflin, Alabama where he served as Senior Class President and captain of the football team. He played football at Troy State University before transferring to Auburn University, where he graduated in 1957. He moved to Florida where he worked for GMAC.
He married Joan Schwulst Blake in 1961. They have a son, Tom Blake and a daughter, Julie Blake Ulmer. In 1974, they moved to Live Oak where he was the co-owner and operator of Blake Barnett Pontiac GMC. He was elected to the Live Oak City Council in 1990 and served for 16 years. He was a Live Oak Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Live Oak Elks Lodge, a member and former Senior Warden of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was an avid bridge player, a friend and mentor to many.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Blake; son, Tom (Mary Beth) Blake; daughter, Julie (Jeremy) Ulmer; grandchildren, Hannah Blake, Owen Blake, Blake Ulmer, Brant Ulmer and Kevarrius Hayes. Visitation will be Friday, March 3 from 5-7 p.m. at Daniel's Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of George Blake to the Steve Self Memorial Scholarship Fund 1313 Coliseum Avenue, Live Oak, FL 32064.
