Hazel Herring Williams-Alexander, a native of Suwannee County passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in Macon, GA. She is the daughter of the late Summer and Mary Herring. She accepted Christ at an early age at Allen Chapel AME Church, she graduated as valedictorian of Douglass High School class of 1959; and went on to graduate from Bethune Cookman College, Daytona Beach, FL where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion CME Church, Eastman, GA, and a retired educator of the Dodge County Georgia School District.
She is survived by her Husband, William Alexander of Eastman, GA; two daughters, Tonya (Lester) Benjamin of Katy, TX, Prudence Harris of Covington, GA; one son, Michael (Detral) Williams, of McDonough, GA; one grandson, Bryant Michael Harris; two brothers Summer (Von) Herring, Jr., of Orange Park, FL, Joe (Ethel) Herring, Lake City, FL; 5-sisters, Annette Herring, Susan (Robert) Ford, Mary (Larry) Holland, Andretha (Terry) Sheffield, all of Live Oak, and Joann (Robert) Gordon, of Delray Beach, FL; one sister-in-law, Earlene McGee, of Live Oak, FL, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, schoolmates, and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion CME Church, 556 M.L.K. Jr Drive, Eastman, GA. There will also be a memorial service on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Allen Chapel AME Church, 7385 Railroad Street, Live Oak, FL at 11:00 am., a public viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. 10:45 a.m. Internment will be in the Houston Community Cemetery.
