Mrs. Helen Scott Gamble, 85, of the Luraville community in Live Oak, FL, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL.
She was a Christian lady of Protestant faith and a long time member of Luraville Baptist Church. Helen was born to Reginald Scott, Sr. and Jewel McCullers Scott on May 20, 1932 in Live Oak, FL. She attended Suwannee County schools, was the 1950 SHS Graduating Class Valedictorian, and attended Florida State University, after which she taught at Clayland School.
Helen may be most remembered as the "World Book Lady" and Childcraft Books representative where she touched many families and childrens' lives for so many years.
During the summer seasons, she held the position of Bookkeeper at Swain's Tobacco Warehouse in Live Oak. Helen's pride and joy was her family and their farm, preparing meals for her family and farm workers, working many hours in their chicken houses, and helping her husband, Gerald, in managing their farm. She enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens and spending time relaxing at their home at Dekle Beach.
Helen was preceded in death by her father and mother, Reginald Scott, Sr. and Jewel McCullers Scott, and her brother, Reginald Scott, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Gerald Gamble, Live Oak, son, Paul (Nancy) Gamble, Live Oak, daughters Jane (Reed) Moore, Live Oak, and Angela (Andy) Hurst, Leesburg, GA, sister Frances Scott McCullers, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, together with host of nieces, nephews and "adopted" children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at visitation Sunday, September 24, 2017, 4:00-6:00pm at Daniels Funeral Home in Live Oak. A funeral service for Helen will be held Monday, September 25, 2017, 11:00am at Luraville Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Carmichael officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at the Luraville Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Luraville Baptist Church, 18791 168th Street, Live Oak, Fl. 32060 or Haven Hospice, 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the doctors and medical staff, Haven Hospice staff, and, especially the home caregivers who attended Helen over the past few years.
