Jack's Story

Jack Lynn Webb, 84, of East Lake Weir passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his residence.
Jack was a native of Jasper, Fla., his family settling in Hamilton County in 1821. He moved to Ocklawaha during high school, where his family owned and operated Webb's Restaurant for many years. After graduating from Weirsdale High School in 1949, Jack went to the University of Florida where he played football. After his freshman year, he joined the United Stated Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged, he went back to UF and finished his degree in 1958 with a bachelor's in building construction. He worked in the building industry in Jacksonville, becoming the largest residential home builder in Duvall County during the 1970's.
After retiring from the building industry, he transitioned to a successful orange grove and cattle operation. He was a member of the Belleview Masonic Lodge #95, the Scottish Rite, Moroccan Shrine Temple, and the Ocala Elks Club. During his free time he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting at his ranch in the Bull Mountains of Montana and in the Rockies, where he spent many hunting seasons with his daughters, grandson, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fredericka Boyer Webb. Survivors include his daughters Susan Webb of Shaker Heights, Oh., Elizabeth Webb (William Twyford) of Winter Haven, Fla., Nancy Abshier (Edward) of East Lake Weir, Fla., Esther Strockbine (William) of East Lake Weir, Fla., and Lorena Caruthers, of Wildwood, Fla.; sister Joanne Nelson of Pompano, Fla.; grandchildren Lorena Walker, William Twyford, Jr., Jackson Abshier, Jack Twyford, Emma Twyford, Fredericka Caruthers, and Eliza Strockbine.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at Weirsdale Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 22 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala.
