Joseph "Joe" Dewey Walker, 83 of Monroe, NC passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Born on July 23, 1933 in Live Oak, Florida to his parents Joseph Westberry Walker and Verna Duncan Walker.
He and his wife Audrey, who preceded him in death in 2011, lived in Lake City, Florida for a number of years. "Joe" as he was known to friends and family is survived is by his sons Kent Walker (Vivian Bender-Walker) of Gainesville Florida, Danny Walker (Peggy) of Hillsboro, Ohio and a daughter Sherry Matheson (Jerry) of Dryden, Virginia. Joe was preceded in death by his son Alan Walker in August 2015.
Alan is survived by his wife (special daughter-in-law) Jeannie of Monroe, NC. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal and in his role as Chaplin's Assistant. He had a long career as a Distributor for Tom's Foods (Snacks) across North Central Florida.
He also worked for Division Manager for Toms Foods over the states of Georgia and Alabama. He was an avid golfer throughout his life. He also enjoyed coordinating large extended family reunions. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren (Anastasia, Leeza, Chris, Chad, Dee-Dee, Alex, Danny & Jodie).
He also is survived by numerous Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, FL with Rev. Bo Hammock officiating. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eighth Avenue , 7th Floor New York, NY 10001.
