Keith Earl Mixon, 65, of Live Oak, Florida died unexpectedly Saturday, February 25, 2017. Keith was born on January 1, 1952 in Live Oak, Florida- the first baby born that year in Suwannee County Hospital. Keith was a 1969 graduate of Suwannee High School and attended North Florida Junior College. He worked as an innkeeper for Holiday Inn as a young man, and a real estate agent for many years later in his life. The career that brought Mr. Mixon the most joy, however, was as a city council representative for District 5 in Live Oak, Florida. His civic responsibilities and service to the town he called home his entire life brought him more joy and fulfillment than any other job he ever had. What Keith Mixon loved more than anything, though, was his role as "Daddy" and "Papa."
He loved chocolate milk, banana pudding, the beach, the New York Yankees, and the Florida Gators. When asked why he loved the Yankees, he would say that he and his little brother chose that team when they were small "Because Terry and I rooted for the winners." Keith Mixon told the best stories of any father or grandfather who has ever lived. His shoes will never be filled.
His love and the sound of his laughter will never be forgotten. Mr. Mixon is predeceased by his father, George Earl Mixon and survived by his mother, Jacqueline Mixon, and his children: Suzanne Vogeley (Tim), Chad Mixon (Charlotte), Blair Wood (Bryan), and Emy Mixon (Matt) He also leaves behind his brother, Terry Mixon (Debbie) and four grandchildren: Danica Vogeley, Chase Mixon, Cole Mixon, and Lincoln Vogeley. A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2 at the First Baptist Church in Live Oak, Florida, and the burial will take place at Live Oak Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
