Lillian "Bernice" Jones Folk passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 after a brief illness, at the age of 92. Born May 5, 1924 in Live Oak, Florida, Bernice and her family lived a Florida country life until she graduated from Suwannee High School in Live Oak. From that moment on Bernice was destined to live life to its fullest. She moved to New Orleans during World War II and became a draftsman, living in a boarding house with her girlfriends. During this time, she met and married Robert Francis Folk, a United States Army soldier who served in Europe during World War II. After World War II she and Bob had 4 children, Beverly Anne, and three sons: Craig, Jay and Mark. As a result of Bob's career as a Construction Manager for oil and gas pipelines, Bernice and her children lived across the United States and Canada packing up their family and moving often as they followed the pipeline construction. Bernice demonstrated her resilience as a homemaker and mother for her children, teaching them how to make a house a home; giving her children experiences that would last a lifetime and opportunities to learn as few were able. As her children became older, she spent time in Columbia, South America and Libya in North Africa as Bob built pipelines in these countries. She traveled and experienced life in the most exotic of places, and was known to transport her favorite animals from far-reaching places back to her home in Miami. She loved her children and family, and was loved in return.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lillie Jones; her brothers, Marvin, Aubrey and Jack; her infant daughter, Beverly Ann; and her son, Jay Folk.
She is survived by her husband, Robert and her sons Craig Folk (Marty) and Mark Folk (Nancy). She is also survived by daughter in laws Sheila Folk and Betsy Folk Clark. Her beloved grandchildren; Wendy Folk Vizek (Jim); Eric Folk (Reagan); Amber Folk Espericueta (Rick); Shawn Folk; and Lilly Folk; and her great-grandchildren; Ansley Vizek, and Owen Folk.
Bernice will be laid to rest in her family's home of Live Oak, Florida, following graveside services. In lieu of floral arrangements, remembrances in her name may be made to the United Way of Lee County, 7273 Concourse Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33908.
