Ronald Lamar Gay, age 82, of Live Oak, FL passed away Monday morning, Dec. 5, 2016 at the Surrey Place in Live Oak. He was born in Moultrie, GA, moving to Live Oak, FL in 1989 from Manatee County, Florida.
He had served as an Airman 1st class in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. He was an entrepreneur establishing multiple businesses in the Manatee County area including Gay's Upholstery, Gay's Accounting Service, a cleaning service and other small businesses before retiring to a small farm in Live Oak to pursue his first love of farming. In addition to his businesses, he volunteered his time to mentor young boys through Royal Rangers (a Christian boys program).
Ronald was a former volunteer of the Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gay, of Live Oak, FL, three daughters, Linda Robin Wilson, of Live Oak, FL; Melissa Morris (Brad "BJ"), of Port Charlotte, FL; Jennifer Ann Smith (Shannon), of Davie, FL; one son, Dr. Ronald Lynn Gay (Serina), of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters, Barbara Duffy, of Aiken, SC; Joann Gallett, of Warrensville, SC; one brother; Randy Gay of Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Preston & Curtie Roberts Gay, grandparents John Frank & Katie Rigsby Gay; brothers Jimmy Gay of Bradenton, FL and Shelby "Steve" Gay of Lubbock, TX; a sister Jackie Gay Lawson of Aiken, SC; and a son-in-law Raymond Wilson of Live Oak, FL.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church at 3 p.m.
