Thelma A. Swing, 94, Dowling Park, FL passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019. The Quincy, FL native was a 50 plus year member of First Baptist Church in Live Oak where she started what would become the first Baptist Church Library out from the trunk of her car by bringing books to GA's (Girls in Actions). At first the library only had one room but eventually grew to two and became a permanent place in the Family Ministries Building. Mrs. Swing worked in the library for over thirty years and was assisted by Pops along with Laverne Dorminey and Bernice Allen for many years after Pop died. She was also a Sunday School Teacher, Pink Lady for thirty-five plus years for the Suwannee County Hospital, a member of the Garden Club for fifty years where she also served as Chaplain. Mrs. Swing baked homemade goods to give to different members of the community for many years and wrote letters of encouragement to soldiers during the Vietnam War. She loved to help people in any way she could on a consistent basis. Mrs. Swing walked the walked and talked the talk and taught her children by example to do mission work. She is survived by her daughter: Susan Swing Isaacs; sons: Robert "Bob" (Louise) Swing, Jack (Ruth) Swing; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Her organization and peaceful nature was evident in all she did. In lieu of flowers family asks that donations be made in memory of Mrs. Swing to Florida Baptist Church of Live Oak Library Fund 401 W Howard Street Live Oak, FL 32064 or Florida Baptist Children's Home, 1015 Sikes Blvd Lakeland, FL 33815.. A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 3rd at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, FL.
