Thomas Phillip Hurst
Thomas Hurst, age 83, of Live Oak, FL passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Suwannee County and 1954 graduate of Suwannee High School. Thomas had farming enterprises of meat, hogs, corn, turkeys, peanuts, breeding hogs, permanent pastures, watermelons, beef cattle, poultry, tobacco and dairy cattle during his four years of vocational agriculture. His leadership activities included six months each as reporter and vice-president of the chapter. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and was a FFA Alumni. Thomas loved the outdoors. Especially fishing for bream, catfish, and mullet when he was not out hunting. He loved running dogs and chasing deer or seating quietly in a tree stand. He also enjoyed spending time in his yard, working in his garden, rocking on his porch or watching his favorite sport, baseball.
He was predeceased by his wife, Inez Hurst; his parents, Leroy Hurst, Sr. and Mamie Elizabeth Hurst; brother, Leroy Hurst, Jr. and sister, Faye Barrington.
He is survived by one daughter, Zandra (Joe) Phillips, Live Oak; one son, Shawn Hurst, Live Oak; daughter/granddaughter, Beth (Josh) Butler, Live Oak; son/grandson, Phillip Hurst, Dothan, AL; two sisters, Myrtle Lee Kirkland, Live Oak; Debbie (Carlton) Deloach, Cartersville, GA; three grandchildren, Skyler (Stephanee) Phillips, Joseph (Toni) Phillips, Alexandra Hurst and fourteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29th from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held, 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 30th, 2020 in the Westwood Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Deas and Dr. Ben Bush officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.
