Doris Irene Whitslar, 85, went to be with our lord, Sept. 4, 2016, after a long illness at Haven Hospice in Lake City. She was born on Apr. 21, 1931 in Canton, Oh. to Walter E. Rusher (deceased) and Hilda Rusher (Procter) (deceased). Doris' education was from certificates and life learning. She had worked in the restaurant business to a CNA in a retirement home. She would help anyone she could. Doris was very proud to feed anyone that needed a meal. Doris was a member of the Branford United Methodist Church. Thanksgiving was Doris' wonderful time of year to feed people at her home and give food baskets at her church.
She is survived by her brother, Don Loye Rusher, who resides in Oh.; six sons, Wayne Foxx in Az., Fred Whitslar lll in Lake City, Fla., Harry Whitslar in Tampa, Fla., Frank Whitslar in Lake City, Fla. and Daniel and James Whitslar in Branford, Fla. and three daughters, Catherine Newby in Lake City, Fla., Patti Blevins in Lake City, Fla. and Doris Whitslar in Branford, Fla. She had 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, two nephews, one niece. Doris was preceded by her husband, Fred Whitslar Jr.; grandparents, John and Ida Rusher and Clarence and Rose Procter.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Branford United Methodist Church, 405 NW Express Street, Branford, Fla. with Pastor Tim Blanton Officiating.
Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
