George's Story

Mr. George L. Church, 75, a lifelong resident of Columbia County, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017 in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital following a brief illness. He was a son of the late George and Pearl Edith Williams Church Gilbert. Following his education here in Columbia County, Mr. Church served in the United States Army. He worked for a time for J.C. Penney and then as a Singer sewing machine repairman. For more than twenty-five years he worked with the Lake City Advertiser as a print specialist and went on to use that knowledge in jobs with Summerall Printing, Rapid Press and ultimately at the Lake City Reporter. Mr. Church was first and foremost a family man who loved his service to his church and his calling as a servant to the Lord. He served in many different capacities at the Watertown Congregational Methodist Church where he and his family have been members for more than thirty years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Evelyn Miller Church.
Mr. Church is survived by his daughters, Tina Church, Eadie Geiger (Tim), and Brenda Leahy (Jeff); and his brother, Wayne Church all of Lake City. His grandchildren, Joshua Church, Tim Geiger, Benjamin Tardif, Daniel Tardif, Johnathan Harris, Brittany O'Nishea, Rachael Tardif, Jordan Harris, Keli Geiger, Keri Geiger, Amanda Leahy Cordova, Austin Leahy, and Abby Leahy and six great -grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Church will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in the Watertown Congregational Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Ogburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 Monday evening in the Chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home. Private family interment services will be held at a later time.
