Jake Cordes Pugh, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Haven Hospice. He is survived by siblings, Martha Cagle (Rick), of Jacksonville; William Pugh (Betty), of Suwannee County; Janet Samson, of Suwannee County; Sister Susan Pugh, DC, of Mobile, AL; Michael Pugh, of Deland; 19 nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts and numerous treasured friends. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Mercedes Pugh and sister, Mary Elizabeth Pugh.
Jake was born on May 14, 1946 in Eustis, Florida. He graduated from Paxon High School in Jacksonville. Jake served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict; then entered Civil Service working as an electronics technician at NAS in Jacksonville. Jake often traveled to repair electronic equipment on Navy vessels and aircraft. In 2001, Jake was the last Civil Servant to leave Cecil Field, when he retired to his property on the family farm in Suwannee County.
Our Lord is deeply pleased with his servant Jake. He gave willingly of his time, talent and treasure to family, friends and strangers. He was a compassionate brother to everyone.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3, at San Juan Mission located at 304 Plant Ave. SE in Branford, FL 32008. Visitation 10 a.m.; Mass 11 a.m. Interment & Military Honors follow at the Pugh Farm Cemetery. Reception follows at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice at 6037 W US Hwy 90 Lake City, FL 32055.
