Mayor John L. Morgan, 86, of White Springs, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 18, 2016, at the Suwannee Valley Haven Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. He was born in the Council/Fargo area of Georgia on April 10, 1930 to the late George Washington and Rachel Starling Morgan. He has lived in the White Springs area all his life and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. He served as the Mayor of White Springs for many years, and in his spare time he loved to go hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and restoring old cars. He is preceded in death by his grandson: Travis Morgan and daughter: Thelma Jewel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years: Mrs. Pauline Morgan of White Springs; sons: John David Morgan and Milton Dwight Morgan both of White Springs; daughters: Marilynn (Donald) Cowart of White Springs, Vonnie (David) Strickland of Live Oak; Shirley (Glen) Aldridge of White Springs and Patricia (Adam) Douglas of White Springs; sisters: Essie Ogburn of White Springs and Geraldine Vaugh of Lake City. Eighteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be conducted on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in White Springs. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, April 20, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. in the Chapel of the Funeral Home.
