Patricia A. Witt (Patsy) left this earthly plane Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 to join her recently departed husband of 59 years, Fred F. Witt and their tiny daughter, Susan Nora Witt, laid to rest in 1963.
Patsy is survived by her loving and fiercely-devoted son, Richard Witt and sister-in-law and longtime friend, Pauline Calabrese.
While Patsy and Fred would have celebrated 60 years of marriage next March, they had known each other since they were seven years oldshe being the final survivor of nine siblings. As her health declined, Surrey Place became home away from home, and though she grumbled at Rich and Fred when they would come to visit, rumor has it that Patsy was quite the social butterfly; Rich called her "The Mayor," as she strolled down the halls, mingling with other residents and helping those who couldn't help themselves in the dining room.
Always competitive, Fred challenged Patsy for attention from the nurses by also taking up residence at Surrey Place after an unfortunate fall. The entire family was incredibly blessed to have the empathetic and highly skilled support team at Surrey Place, who focused not only on the body of the individual resident, but on the spirit of the resident and family members as wellespecially when tougher times prevailed.
Patsy touched so many lives while she was among uswhether through gifts of wildly creative crafts; succulent culinary delights from her kitchen; or squeeze-the-life-out-you-make-you-feel-safe amazing hugs, her love shone through and made you feel special. But the way in which Patsy will be best remembered is the heartwarming and inspiring way in which she took care of her boys.
In honoring Patsy's request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to one of her favorite charities: The American Legion, Post 107, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the Suwannee County Humane Society.
